Ipswich Local Government election guide: What division am I in?
The Ipswich local government elections are not far away and there are a number of new changes that voters and residents of the city may not be aware of.
Firstly, there are no longer 10 seperate divisions across the city. After a boundary review, the previous divisions have been amalgamated into larger areas that will be represented by two elected councillors per division. Residents will still be able to vote for a Mayor separately.
How to search your address to confirm voting division?
The best way to confirm exactly what division you are in is via the Australian Electoral Commission website. There is a dedicated enrolment search function here.
Where can I find information about candidates for Mayor and my division? Who is running?
The Ipswich local government elections for 2020 have attracted a large number of candidates and trying to find one source of information on who is running, their policies, passions and professional skills can be difficult. Nearly every candidate has a social media page, typically Facebook, and this can be a great starting point in your research.
The Queensland Times publishes a consolidated list of candidates or alternatively you can find an excellent (and free) summary via Allan Roebuck and #lge2020 on Twitter.
