Positive growth series: Health care and social assistance

As the older neighbour of Queensland’s capital city, Ipswich has a proud history of being an economic engine room for Queensland and centre stage in traditional manufacturing and heavy industries throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
While times may change as industries come and go with market tides, Ipswich is still a city and region that continues to grow and share economic success stories – some you will know, some you may have missed.

Meet Ipswich's largest employer (by sector) - health care and social assistance

Australia’s population is ageing with approximately 3.8 million being aged 65 and over. There are numerous professions and industries that play a role supporting this cohort of Australian; hospital staff, medical, other healthcare, residential care and social assistance – the list goes on.

Currently within the city of Ipswich there are 10,985 directly people employed within health care and social assistance, with many secondary industries and professions also part of this sector (think financial planners, trades, hospitality, retail and more).
